Hello Anna,

The reason why I’m writing to you this time is just for you to know a little bit about us and tell you some of the stuff that we been doing over here. I got to know a bit of you trough from your web site, your biography, articles and the gorgeous pictures. There were few details that got my complete attention from you. Your interest or ability to use fire arms, the skills with games, the fact that you called your charity organization “Benson’s Battalion” and your unique beauty. I laugh a lot when I read the “dumb dumb” section of your web site, especially the answer that you gave that “dork” was awesome and truly funny.

I will give you in a short few sentence an introduction of my unit, and like I said before a short summary of our mission here in Iraq. My unit is B Co. 2nd Battalion 1st Infantry Regiment, 172 Stryker Brigade Combat Team from Fort Wainwright, Alaska. This unit used to be a light infantry brigade, but with the new transitioning of the Army, this brigade became one of the fewest Stryker brigades in United States. During approximately two years this unit conducted a series of training in preparation for Iraq.
We finally deployed to Iraq in August 2005 basically leaving most of our lives behind and focusing in our upcoming mission. Our company went first to a city called Rawah which is several kilometers west to Mosul. Mosul is the second biggest city of Iraq and it is located north of Iraq with a population of 3 million people. In the other hand Rawah is a small city with a population of 30,000 people at the most. However, our job over there was very important due that this area was used by insurgents to smuggle weapons and ammunition mainly from Syria. The aftermath of our mission in Rawah, recorded the detention of over 300 insurgents and confiscated or destroyed thousands of weapons and ammunition used against collation forces all over Iraq.

I will send you a video that I made out pictures that has been taken throughout the deployment. I hope you, your child and staff like it, at the same time I would like to hear from you again in a near future. I wish you and your family a wonderful week.
Sincerely,
Mario Colón
PS. The first picture is my friend Sgt. Zapata and I, the second one is a picture of myself with Mosul in the back ground, and the third picture was taken while we were in Forward COP North near the Syrian border. Over here we were part of the Operation Steel Curtain, the other guys are soldiers from the Iraqi Army that were working with us at that time. Thanks for your time and take care.

Anna & Sandy,
Thank you so very much for everything you sent us. We all appreciate everything you've done for us more than you can imagine. The entire team is in total love with both of you now. All the guys said they want to join the Anna Benson Army once it's formed. You gave me and my guys a lot, in that, we know that there are true patriots back home thinking of us. We have a little less than two months left in Iraq, so when we get back I'm sending you two some Special Forces team hats, shirts, and some team coins. I know it's not a lot, but it would mean a lot to us. I've attached a couple of photos we took today for you. I hope you like them. We had to walk up 18 stories with all that crap on...not that it was hard, but everyone just wanted to let you know that 252 stairs is a lot of stairs for a photo. It was actually kind of fun. Anyway, thank you again for everything. It was so much more than we ever expected. Thank you
